San Diego State (8-1), which has matched its best start to a year in 86 seasons and has matched Steve Fisher’s best start to a campaign in the national championship coach’s career, plays host to 14th/15thranked Arizona (6-1) on Saturday in the third annual San Diego SLAM at Cox Arena. The basketball doubleheader features 22nd/24thranked Oklahoma State (10-0) against Ball State (3-5) in the opener at 4 p.m. PST, followed by the Aztecs and the Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. PST.

San Diego State’s quest for a school-record 9-0 start came to an end on Saturday, as the
Aztecs could not hold a seven-point second-half advantage in an 84-73 loss at Western
Michigan. The Aztecs shot a season-low 44.1 percent from the field and a season-low 56.5
percent from the free-throw line, while committing a season-high 22 turnovers in having
their 14-game regular-season winning streak snapped.
