Lucinda Williams, three-time Grammy Award winner, is coming to San Diego this summer. She was named “America’s best songwriter” by TIME magazine in 2002 so this is sure to be a great show. She was born in Louisiana but spent much of her time in Texas. Her new album “West” has just been released which is praised as her best album. Here is some info about her from Wikipedia:

Her seventh album, World Without Tears, was released in 2003. A musically adventurous though lyrically downbeat album, this release found Williams experimenting with talking blues stylings and electric blues.

In 2006, Lucinda recorded a version of the John Hartford classic “Gentle On My Mind,” which played over the closing credits of the Will Ferrell filmTalladega Nights: The Ballad Of Ricky Bobby

Williams was a guest vocalist on the song “Factory Girls” from Irish punk-folk band Flogging Molly’s 2004 album, “Within a Mile of Home”, and appeared on Elvis Costello’s The Delivery Man. She duetted with Steve Earle on the song “You’re Still Standin’ There” from his album I Feel Alright from 1996.

Lucinda has released her latest album titled West for which she wrote over 27 songs. The album was released on February 13, 2007 and contains 13 tracks and has a similar sound to World Without Tears. It addresses her mothers’ death and a tumultous relationship break-up. Vanity Fair has praised it, saying “Lucinda Williams has made the record of a lifetime - part Hank Williams, part Bob Dylan, part Keith Richards circa Exile On Main Street…”

She is also currently engaged to be married.

Jesse Malin’s 2007 album Glitter in the Gutter contains the track “Lucinda,” an ode to Williams.
