Social Distortion Tickets in San Diego

By: San Diego Tickets Finder    Category: Concerts,House of Blues (San Diego) Tickets

Social D is coming to San Diego to play at the House of Blues. Here is some info from wikipedia:

Social Distortion (sometimes referred to simply as Social D or SxDx) is an American punk rock band formed in 1978 in Fullerton, California. The band currently consists of Mike Ness (vocals, guitars), Jonny Wickersham (guitars), Brent Harding (bass) and David Hidalgo, Jr. (drums).

Social Distortion temporarily disbanded in 1985, due to frontman Ness’ drug addiction and troubles with the law, which resulted in extended stints in various rehabilitation centers, that lasted for two years. However, the band reformed around 1986 and have continued being active today, even after the death of longtime guitarist Dennis Danell, who succumbed to a brain aneurysm in 2000. Since its inception the band lineup has been a virtual revolving-door of talent, with many members coming and going – Ness has been the only constant member.

To date, Social Distortion has released seven full-length studio albums, two compilations, one live album and two DVDs. The band released its debut album Mommy’s Little Monster in 1983, which was quite popular in the United States. Social Distortion did not release a second album, Prison Bound, until 1988. That album attracted the attention of Epic Records, who signed the band in 1989 and issued their highly successful self-titled third album a year later, which peaked at number 128 on the Billboard 200, and featured their well-known hit singles “Ball and Chain”, “Story of My Life” and the cover of Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire.” The next three albums, Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell, White Light, White Heat, White Trash and Sex, Love and Rock ‘n’ Roll were also well-received but not as successful as the self-titled album. Social Distortion released their most recent studio album, Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes, on January 18, 2011, which was the fourth anniversary of the death of former Social Distortion bassist Brent Liles. The band also released their first Greatest Hits compilation on June 26, 2007.

Morcheeba Tickets in San Diego

By: San Diego Tickets Finder    Category: Concerts,House of Blues (San Diego) Tickets

The House of Blues in San Diego is hosting Morcheeba. Here is some info from wikipedia:

Sometime in the mid-1990s, the Godfrey brothers (DJ Paul Godfrey and multi-instrumentalist Ross Godfrey) recruited Skye Edwards as vocalist, during a chance meeting at a party in which both brothers were introduced to Edwards. This led to the formation of Morcheeba.

The band’s debut album, Who Can You Trust? was released on China Records in April 1996. and fitted smoothly into the then-modish trip hop genre, with instrumentation based predominantly around Rhodes piano, electric guitar and DJ scratching, with the songs carried by Edwards’ relaxed soul-styled vocals.

The follow-up, 1998’s Big Calm, moved slightly away from trip-hop towards a more pop-oriented, song-based sound. This was exemplified by the band’s remaking of “Moog Island” (a song from the previous album) in a more summery, upbeat style, with the new title of “The Music That We Hear”. One of the album’s singles, “The Sea”, became a hit and a radio favourite. The album proved to be a big seller and ensured Morcheeba’s success as a breakthrough act. In 1998, Morcheeba collaborated with Hubert Laws to record for the Red Hot Organization’s compilation album Red Hot + Rhapsody, a tribute to George Gershwin, which raised money for various charities devoted to increasing AIDS awareness and fighting the disease.

Ben Folds it coming to San Diego. Come to the House of Blues for the fun. Here is some info from wikipedia:

Folds toured with John Mayer as an opening act (though his set typically lasted an hour) in the summer of 2007. During this tour, Mayer sometimes joined Folds on the song “Narcolepsy”, playing synth. At various concerts throughout the tour, parents of young children going to see Mayer would file complaints about Folds’ lyrics. Folds responded by posting on his website, “We have kids too, but we don’t take them out to rock shows that last until 11pm.”

On March 29, 2008, Folds played the Cage Center Arena at Berry College in Mt. Berry, GA. During contract negotiations, he was asked by the administration to not play one of his songs due to its explicit lyrics. Folds refused, citing artistic freedom.

On May 9, 2008, Folds played his first completely solo show in years at Western Connecticut State University due to the fact that his bassist Jared Reynolds was with his wife who had just given birth to their first son.

Folds made a brief solo tour of Australia during August 2009; at his Sydney Opera House concert he was joined onstage for several songs by Aimee Mann, who was also touring Australia at the time. At the Palais theatre in Melbourne Missy Higgins joined him for You Don’t Know Me.

I can’t say I know anything about the Buzzcocks, but that is why we have wikipedia. They are coming to the San Diego House of Blues soon. Here is some info from wikipedia:

Buzzcocks are an English rock band formed in Bolton in 1976, led by singer–songwriter–guitarist Pete Shelley.

They are regarded as an important influence on the Manchester music scene, the independent record label movement, punk rock, power pop, pop punk and indie rock. They achieved commercial success with singles that fused pop craftsmanship with rapid-fire punk energy. These singles were collected on Singles Going Steady, described by critic Ned Raggett as a “punk masterpiece”. The widely covered “Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn’t’ve)” remains one of their best-known songs.

The name “Buzzcocks” was chosen by Howard Devoto and Pete Shelley after reading the headline “it’s the buzz, cocks!” in a review of the TV series Rock Follies in Time Out magazine. The “buzz” is the excitement of playing on stage; “cock” is Manchester slang meaning “youngster”. They thought it captured the excitement of the Sex Pistols and nascent punk scene

The band was founded in early 2001 in Raleigh, North Carolina by vocalist Tommy Rogers, guitarist Paul Waggoner, drummer Will Goodyear, guitarist Nick Fletcher (formerly Empire Falls), and bassist Jason King.

This album includes the track “Arsonist,” a protest against the beliefs and practices of the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas. The song “Aspirations” became the band’s first music video. This album is not widely known and the tracks are rarely played live, but it did get the attention of Victory Records, to which they later signed. Victory Records reissued the album in 2004 as an enhanced CD.

The Aquabats (often written as The Aquabats!) are an American rock band formed in 1994 in Orange County, California. They have released four full-length studio albums and have toured internationally. They are best known for their mythology, in which they claim to be superheroes on a quest to save the world from evil through music. As a part of this mythology the band members have adopted superhero pseudonyms and dress in matching costumes. Their eclectic live show often includes onstage “battles” with costumed foes, and the band has built up an elaborate and ever-changing backstory of their origins and adventures, along with a roster of allies and enemies. The group’s lineup has fluctuated significantly throughout their career, with founding members The MC Bat Commander and Crash McLarson as regular fixtures. Jimmy the Robot has also remained a longtime member, having joined the band in 1997. The Aquabats’ early work was heavily rooted in the third wave of ska music, with touches of surf and punk rock. Over the years their music shifted towards more synthesizer-based rock with a new wave influence. Their current style blends elements of rock and roll, pop-punk, ska, and synthpop.

As a result, some consider Sonic Youth as pivotal in the rise of the alternative rock movement.
