Say Anything Tickets in San Diego

By: Jamie    Category: House of Blues (San Diego) Tickets, Concerts

Oh Man!!! Say Anything is coming to the House of Blues. I wish I knew something about them. May be wikipedia can help us:

Say Anything began their career in 2001 under the name Sayanything. All but two of the original members attended Windward School at this time. Coby Linder attended Shalhevet High School and Josh Eichenstein attended Beverly Hills High School. They self-released two EP’s, Junior Varsity and Menorah\Majora (Menorah\Majora being an online release), and one LP entitled Baseball. Both Baseball and Junior Varsity are out of print and are no longer available.

Though it was previously indicated that Bemis would not perform any songs from Baseball live, he recently stated in an interview with Absolutepunk.net saying that “I will play them again at some point in some capacity.” These early albums have a more straightforward emo/pop-punk sound, as opposed to the hard-rock sound of later works. In 2003, Forrest Kline (of power pop band hellogoodbye) recorded For Sale… with them, which was their third EP released. Photos of Kline recording with Say Anything can be found on the official hellogoodbye website.

Yellowcard Tickets in San Diego

By: Jamie    Category: House of Blues (San Diego) Tickets, Concerts

Now this is a band that I like. I haven’t heard the last album but the one that came out in 2002 is awesome. Yellowcard is coming to play at he House of Blues in San Diego. Go now and get tickets. Here is some info from wikipedia:

The band released their first album, Midget Tossing, in 1997. While Sean Mackin was featured on some of the songs, he was not a full-fledged member yet, as he still objected to many of the band’s messages. Where We Stand, their second album, featured the same lineup as Midget Tossing, and Mackin was featured on more songs. Soon Ben Dobson lost interest in the band and left. He was replaced by Ryan Key (vocals & rhythm guitar), a local of Jacksonville who was playing in a band called Craig’s Brother. This changed the band’s music style drastically, from hardcore punk to pop punk. It also changed most of their fan base, leaving them with a new beginning and a fresh start as a band.

The Black Keys Tickets in San Diego

By: Jamie    Category: House of Blues (San Diego) Tickets, Concerts

Yes you are right…this is a good band. The Black Keys are coming to the House of Blues in San Diego. Come check them out. Some info from wikipedia:

The band’s name was inspired by an artist friend of the band in Akron with schizophrenia, who used the term “black keys” to describe people who weren’t quite right. A double meaning lies in the fact that the black keys of a piano comprise a pentatonic minor scale when starting on E flat, which is often associated with blues and rock music.

The band is frequently compared to The White Stripes - another blues-based Lo-fi musical duo (drums; vocals and guitar) The band released their first album, The Big Come Up, in 2002, followed by Thickfreakness in 2003, and Rubber Factory in 2004. October 2005 saw the release of the DVD Live, recorded live at The Metro Theatre in Sydney, Australia March 18, 2005. Dave Attell Tickets in San Diego

Now I can’t say I know anything about Dave Attell, yet I can give you info from wikipedia (found below). He is preforming at the House of Blues in San Diego.

Born in Queens, NY, he grew up in Rockville Centre, New York and now lives in New York City. Attell’s initial dive into stand-up comedy is attributed to his indecisiveness as to what he should do after college. In 1987 (the same year he graduated from New York University with a degree in communications), like many other fledgling comedians, he worked normal jobs during the day and put in his time at comedy clubs at night. He worked his first gig at Governor’s in Long Island and, according to Attell, “totally bombed”. After years of finding his voice, he found himself being described as “the comedian’s comedian”. When working a club, the other comedians, such as Michael Royce (a producer/writer on Everybody Loves Raymond), David Juskow (a performer on TV Funhouse), Kevin Brennan (from Saturday Night Live and HBO’s One Night Stand) and Jon Stewart, would come in to watch his act. While the audience didn’t always follow his up-front delivery, fellow comedians were refreshed by his originality.

Styx Tickets in San Diego

By: Jamie    Category: House of Blues (San Diego) Tickets, Concerts

Oh yeah!!!! The greatest band in the world is coming to San Diego and their name is Styx. The concert is going off at the House of Blues, so get your ace down there.

Here is some info from wiki:

By 1980, Styx had (over the course of several albums) established themselves with their lyrics, criticizing unemployment (”Blue Collar Man”), consumerism (”The Grand Illusion”), and materialism (”Pieces of Eight”).

In January 1981, Styx released Paradise Theatre, a loose concept album that became their biggest hit, reaching number one on the Billboard pop albums chart and yielding five singles, including the top ten hits “The Best of Times” by DeYoung (#3) and “Too Much Time on My Hands” by Shaw (#8).

The band was accused by a California religious group and later Tipper Gore’s P.M.R.C of backmasking Satanic messages in their anti-cocaine anthem, “Snowblind.” J.Y. has often gone on the record, refuting this charge during his concert introduction for “Snowblind”, with Dennis saying on In the Studio with Redbeard which devoted an entire episode to the making of Paradise Theatre: “we had enough trouble to make the music sound right forward. It was the name Styx which is the river that runs through the underground. Can you imagine attacking the band that made Babe, I mean please!”

She Wants Revenge Tickets in San Diego

By: Jamie    Category: House of Blues (San Diego) Tickets, Concerts

This fall She Wants Revenge will be paying a visit to San Diego. They will be at the House of Blues. Here is some info about them from Wikipedia:

She Wants Revenge is an American darkwave band, based in San Fernando Valley, California. They released their debut album in early 2006, which spawned three successful singles. The music video of “Tear You Apart”, directed by Joaquin Phoenix, gained heavy rotation on music channels.

The band’s second album, This Is Forever, will be released on October 9, 2007.
She Wants Revenge’s sound is influenced by ’80s bands and acts like Prince, Erik B and Rakim, Joy Division, New Order, The Cure, Danse Society, Depeche Mode, and Suicide. The lyrical content heavily suggests a tongue-in-cheek parody of teenage angst and high school notebook poetry, with a vocal delivery sometimes reminiscent of vintage hip hop. The band toured extensively through 2006.

In 2007, the group was featured on the track “Time” with Timbaland.

Gin Blossoms Tickets in San Diego

By: Jamie    Category: House of Blues (San Diego) Tickets, Concerts

Gin Blossoms is coming to San Diego this fall. I loved them in the late 80’s and was sad to hear they had broken up. However they are back together and released a new album last year. They will be at the House of Blues in San Diego. According to Wikipedia:

Gin Blossoms are an alternative rock band formed in 1987, in Tempe, Arizona. They took their name from a photo of W.C. Fields which bore the caption “W.C. Fields with gin blossoms,” referring to the actor’s gin-ravaged nose. The band, who were musically weaned on The Byrds and Tom Petty, released three albums and had several hits in the mid 1990s, before breaking up in 1997. Five years later in 2002, the band reunited, released a DVD, resumed touring, and promised a fourth album. Major Lodge Victory, the Gin Blossoms’ first album in ten years, was released on August 8, 2006 on the Hybrid Recordings label.

Ween Tickets in San Diego

By: Jamie    Category: House of Blues (San Diego) Tickets, Concerts

Ween, which apparently has a huge underground following, is coming to San Diego. They are not very well known in the mainstream pop music scene, but are fairly successful. They will be at the House of Blues. According to Wikipedia:

The two signed to Sanctuary Records in 2003 and released Quebec, their first studio set in 3 years. In 2004, Ween released Live in Chicago, a DVD and CD set that chronicled a compilation of three energetic live performances for which the group is known.

In 2005 they released Shinola, Vol. 1 a collection of outtakes which received some positive press, especially in Europe[citation needed], which was followed up by two singles taken from the album, Monique The Freak and Gabrielle (2006).

In February of 2006, they rented an old farmhouse and converted it into a working studio. After writing over 50 songs and recording rough versions through 2006, they picked through them, and, with Andrew Weiss as producer, re-recorded album versions. As of March 2007, they are recording final versions of what they have said to be about 20 songs. On May 22, 2007 they announced they will be releasing an EP entitled “The Friends EP” on June 8th. Dean Ween said the EP will be “The ultimate party record, filled with good beats and good times. Perfect for your barbecue or doing bong hits or whatever it is that you guys do.” And also they announced the new album–entitled “La Cucaracha”– will be released October 23, 2007 on Rounder Records, placing them on the same label as fellow Alternative Rock duo They Might Be Giants
