Back in the Mid 90′s I remember that Helmet was a sweet rock band. I haven’t followed them in the last few years, but they are coming to San Diego for a show at the House of Blues. Here is some info from wikipedia:

Helmet is an American post-hardcore/alternative metal band formed in New York City by Page Hamilton (vocals/guitar) with Henry Bogdan (bass), Peter Mengede (guitar) and John Stanier (drums) in 1989. In the 19 years since its inception, Helmet has had numerous lineup changes, and Hamilton has been the only constant member.

Helmet has released six studio albums and two compilations. The band found mainstream success with their 1992 major label debut Meantime, which debuted at number 68 on the Billboard 200 and spawned the hits “Unsung” and “In the Meantime”. After releasing two more albums, Betty and Aftertaste, Helmet broke up in 1998, but reformed in 2004. The band released their first post-reunion album, Size Matters, later that year and it was their last release on their longtime label Interscope Records. They are now signed to Warcon Records, who released their latest album, Monochrome, on July 18, 2006.

Sisters of Mercy Tickets in San Diego

By: Jamie    Category: Concerts,House of Blues (San Diego) Tickets

The original Sisters of Mercy is a very old organization, but I don’t think this is the same group. This is a rock band and they are coming to San Diego for a show at the House of Blues. Here is some info from wikipedia:

The Sisters of Mercy are an English gothic rock band that formed in 1980. After achieving early underground fame in UK, the band had their commercial breakthrough in mid-1980s and sustained it until the early 1990s, when they stopped releasing new recorded output as a strike against their record company. Currently, the band is kept alive as a touring outfit only. The band’s symbol was inspired by a common illustration in Anatomy textbooks, namely that illustrating the anterior and posterior triangles of the neck. Specifically, it was noticed by Andrew Eldritch in the early medical student’s bible Gray’s Anatomy.

Ben Kenney of Incubus with Heavy Young Heathens Tickets in San Diego

Ben Kenney is coming without his normal group of Incubus, but that doesn’t mean the show will be bad. He is coming to San Diego to play at the House of Blues. Come out for the show. Here is some info from wikipedia:

Ben Kenney, (born on March 12, 1977), is a musician from the United States, and the bassist for the band Incubus.

Ben Kenney played guitar for the hip-hop group The Roots before he joined Incubus in 2003 after the departure of bassist and founding member Alex Katunich aka Dirk Lance. He had previously played with Incubus members Mike Einziger and Jose Pasillas in Time Lapse Consortium.

The introduction of Kenney into the group marked a shift in the band’s sound. His tight grooves and hip hop influenced sound replaced previous bassist Dirk Lance’s funky bass lines. Apart from changing the groove and the style of Incubus’ work, he also added backing vocals to their songs (Mike Einziger used to do them), adding extra harmonies to each song, examples of which can be heard in the songs Agoraphobia, Pendulous Threads and Diamonds and Coal.

Gwar Tickets in San Diego

By: Jamie    Category: Concerts,House of Blues (San Diego) Tickets

I remember seeing Gwar on Bevis and Butthead when I was a Kid. This is a satirical thrash band that dresses up in funny costumes and has a good time. They are playing at the House of Blues in San Diego. Here is some info from wikipedia:

GWAR is a satirical thrash metal musical group formed in 1985. The band is best known for their elaborate sci-fi/horror film inspired costumes; raunchy, obscene lyrics; and graphic stage performances, which consist of humorous re-enactments of political and moral taboo themes. The band also performed fire dancing until the character “Slymenstra Hymen” left the band. Their costumes are generally made of foam latex, styrofoam, and hardened rubber. The costumes cover very little, with the rest of their bodies accentuated with makeup. They further their production in concert by spraying their audiences with imitation fluids. Most of the fluids are made of water and powdered food coloring which, for the most part, flakes off or washes out easily. The thicker fluids are made from a clear seaweed extract called carrageenan which is also used in ice cream and milkshakes.[1] GWAR does not use syrups or stage blood because they dry solid, wrecking their costumes.[2] In concert, GWAR has been known occasionally to perform their encore without costumes.

The Misfits Tickets in San Diego

By: Jamie    Category: Concerts,House of Blues (San Diego) Tickets

The Misfits have been around for a long time and they are coming to San Diego. Go and get your tickets for the House of Blues in San Diego. Here is some info from wikipedia:

The Misfits are an American hardcore punk band formed in 1977 in New Jersey by singer and songwriter Glenn Danzig, and later re-founded by bassist Jerry Only. The original Misfits were pioneers of the subgenre of horror punk, and were influential on punk rock, heavy metal, and rock music of the late 1980s and 1990s. They ceased recording and performing in 1983, when Danzig disbanded the Misfits to pursue other projects. A new version of the Misfits formed in 1995, led by Only, but lacking Danzig, who declined invitations to return as vocalist.

The music of the original Misfits was often melodic, featuring Danzig’s versatile singing, which had a style rooted in Italian tenors such as Mario Lanza and in 1950s doo-wop. Early Misfits songs tended to have catchy, sing-along choruses, initially backed by Danzig’s distorted keyboard accompaniments and later by willfully crude guitar-rock. The band began as a largely untrained ensemble. Musically, the band has also displayed some rockabilly influences (but not as much as psychobilly bands). After several lineup changes and increasing international acclaim, Danzig disbanded the original Misfits in 1983.

B-52s Tickets in San Diego

By: Jamie    Category: Concerts,House of Blues (San Diego) Tickets

The Love Shack is coming to San Diego. The B-52′s will soon be here for a show at the House of Blues. Here is some info from wikipedia:

The B-52′s originated as a New Wave rock band formed in Athens, Georgia, United States, in 1976. The band’s name comes from a particular beehive hairdo resembling the nose cone of the airplane of the same name. During their early years, wigs of that style were often worn by the band’s female singers Cindy Wilson and Kate Pierson. The correct name for the band has long been “The B-52′s”, but in 2008 they dropped the apostrophe, with their official website and Funplex album and single covers reading “The B-52s”. However, the file tags on the digital releases of both of these retain the apostrophe. Both spellings could now be considered correct.
