The 2007–08 NBA season started roughly for the team. But their patience paid off as the team saw the emergence of their young center Andrew Bynum, whom the Lakers saw potential in. To the Ancient Greeks, physical fitness was paramount, and all Greek cities had a gymnasia, a courtyard for jumping, running, and wrestling. As the Roman Empire ascended, Greek gymnastics gave way to military training. The Romans, for example, introduced the wooden horse. In 393 AD the Emperor Theodosius abolished the Olympic Games, which by then had become corrupt, and gymnastics, along with other sports declined. Later, Christianity, with its medieval belief in the base nature of the human body, had a deleterious effect on gymnastics. For centuries, gymnastics was all but forgotten

Jesus Christ Superstar Tickets in San Diego

The rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar is coming to the San Diego Civic Theater. Here is short blurb from Wiki:

Jesus Christ Superstar is a rock opera by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber. Introduced in 1970, it highlights the political and interpersonal struggles of Judas Iscariot and Jesus. The action largely follows the canonical gospels’ accounts of the last weeks of Jesus’s life, beginning with Jesus and his followers arriving in Jerusalem and ending with the Crucifixion. Twentieth-century attitude and sensibilities as well as contemporary slang pervade the lyrics, and ironic allusions to modern life are scattered throughout the political depiction of the events. Stage and film productions accordingly feature many intentional anachronisms.

A large part of the plot focuses on the character of Judas who is depicted as a conflicted, tragic figure who is not satisfied with what he views as Jesus’s lack of planning, and alarmed by his relatively recent claims of his divinity.

By: Jamie    Category: Concerts,Humphreys By The Bay

Wikipedia said that the band originated in London. I wonder if this London is in Texas or something. Anyway, America the band is coming to San Diego for a show at Humphrey’s by the Bay. Come on down. Here is some info from wikipedia:

America are an English-American folk rock band, originally composed of members Gerry Beckley, Dewey Bunnell, and Dan Peek. The three members were barely past their teenage years when they became an overnight musical sensation in 1972. They reached a peak in popularity in the early to mid 1970s and early 1980s. Among the band’s best known songs are “A Horse with No Name,” “Sister Golden Hair” (both of which reached Number 1), “Ventura Highway,” and “Tin Man”.

Although their music was frequently derided by critics, from a commercial standpoint the band’s singles and albums were exceptionally successful. They were popular enough to attract the services of famed Beatles producer George Martin for a run of seven albums. The band survived the loss of one of its original members near the peak of its success only to see Beckley and Bunnell return the act to the top of charts as a duo with “You Can Do Magic” in 1982. Touring for well over three decades, America maintains a following and performs over 100 shows per year. On January 16, 2007, America released Here & Now, the band’s first major label studio album in over twenty years.
