Dave Mason, who after his tenure with Traffic had a successful solo career is coming to San Diego. He will be playing at the House of Blues. Here is a blurb from Wikipedia about him:

Dave Mason is a musician, singer, songwriter, and guitarist from Worcester, England, who first found fame with the rock band Traffic. In his long career, Mason has played and recorded with many of the era’s most notable musicians, including Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Russ McLellan and Mama Cass Elliot. Mason’s best known song is “Feelin’ Alright”, recorded by Traffic in 1968 and covered by dozens of artists, including Joe Cocker, who had a major hit with the song in 1969. For Traffic, he also wrote “Hole in my Shoe”, a kind of psychedelic satire that became a classic in its own right. “We Just Disagree”, Mason’s own 1977 solo hit, has become a staple of Oldies and Adult Contemporary radio playlists.

The Swell Season Tickets in San Diego

By: Jamie    Category: 4th and B Tickets, Concerts

The Swell Season is coming to San Diego and will be performing at 4th and B this fall. They are a Irish/Czech pair. Here is some info from Wikipedia about them:

The Swell Season is an album by Irish musician Glen Hansard and Czech singer and pianist Markéta Irglová. It is the first album that Hansard, the singer for The Frames, has released independently of his band.

The project came about after Glen and Marketa were approached by the Czech film director Jan Hřebejk while touring in the Czech Republic, and were asked by him to record songs for his upcoming film Beauty in Trouble.

In December 2006, the band toured across the United States with Damien Rice.

The film “Once” (2006), directed by John Carney (Carney was a member of The Frames with Hansard) stars both Markéta Irglová and Glen Hansard and deals with Irglová’s and Hansard’s characters recording an album.

Some of the tracks on this album have appeared on other recordings - the track ‘Falling Slowly’ on The Frames’ album The Cost, and ‘Falling Slowly’, ‘When Your Mind’s Made Up’, ‘Lies’ and ‘Leave’ on the Once soundtrack.

She Wants Revenge Tickets in San Diego

By: Jamie    Category: Concerts, House of Blues (San Diego) Tickets

This fall She Wants Revenge will be paying a visit to San Diego. They will be at the House of Blues. Here is some info about them from Wikipedia:

She Wants Revenge is an American darkwave band, based in San Fernando Valley, California. They released their debut album in early 2006, which spawned three successful singles. The music video of “Tear You Apart”, directed by Joaquin Phoenix, gained heavy rotation on music channels.

The band’s second album, This Is Forever, will be released on October 9, 2007.
She Wants Revenge’s sound is influenced by ’80s bands and acts like Prince, Erik B and Rakim, Joy Division, New Order, The Cure, Danse Society, Depeche Mode, and Suicide. The lyrical content heavily suggests a tongue-in-cheek parody of teenage angst and high school notebook poetry, with a vocal delivery sometimes reminiscent of vintage hip hop. The band toured extensively through 2006.

In 2007, the group was featured on the track “Time” with Timbaland.

Gin Blossoms Tickets in San Diego

By: Jamie    Category: Concerts, House of Blues (San Diego) Tickets

Gin Blossoms is coming to San Diego this fall. I loved them in the late 80’s and was sad to hear they had broken up. However they are back together and released a new album last year. They will be at the House of Blues in San Diego. According to Wikipedia:

Gin Blossoms are an alternative rock band formed in 1987, in Tempe, Arizona. They took their name from a photo of W.C. Fields which bore the caption “W.C. Fields with gin blossoms,” referring to the actor’s gin-ravaged nose. The band, who were musically weaned on The Byrds and Tom Petty, released three albums and had several hits in the mid 1990s, before breaking up in 1997. Five years later in 2002, the band reunited, released a DVD, resumed touring, and promised a fourth album. Major Lodge Victory, the Gin Blossoms’ first album in ten years, was released on August 8, 2006 on the Hybrid Recordings label.

Ween Tickets in San Diego

By: Jamie    Category: Concerts, House of Blues (San Diego) Tickets

Ween, which apparently has a huge underground following, is coming to San Diego. They are not very well known in the mainstream pop music scene, but are fairly successful. They will be at the House of Blues. According to Wikipedia:

The two signed to Sanctuary Records in 2003 and released Quebec, their first studio set in 3 years. In 2004, Ween released Live in Chicago, a DVD and CD set that chronicled a compilation of three energetic live performances for which the group is known.

In 2005 they released Shinola, Vol. 1 a collection of outtakes which received some positive press, especially in Europe[citation needed], which was followed up by two singles taken from the album, Monique The Freak and Gabrielle (2006).

In February of 2006, they rented an old farmhouse and converted it into a working studio. After writing over 50 songs and recording rough versions through 2006, they picked through them, and, with Andrew Weiss as producer, re-recorded album versions. As of March 2007, they are recording final versions of what they have said to be about 20 songs. On May 22, 2007 they announced they will be releasing an EP entitled “The Friends EP” on June 8th. Dean Ween said the EP will be “The ultimate party record, filled with good beats and good times. Perfect for your barbecue or doing bong hits or whatever it is that you guys do.” And also they announced the new album–entitled “La Cucaracha”– will be released October 23, 2007 on Rounder Records, placing them on the same label as fellow Alternative Rock duo They Might Be Giants

Fiona Apple Tickets in San Diego

By: Jamie    Category: 4th and B Tickets, Concerts

Fiona Apple is coming to San Diego this fall. She will be at 4th and B performing. According to Wikipedia:

Apple went on a live tour to promote the album in late 2005, and from early 2006 supported Coldplay on their tour of North America. In June 2006 Apple appeared on the joke track “Come over and Get It (Up in ‘Dem Guts)” by comedian Zach Galifianakis. Galifianakis previously appeared in the music video for Apple’s “Not About Love”. The joke track is a complete departure from Apple’s previous work, both lyrically and musically. It is a hip-hop/rap/dance track that features Apple singing lines such as “Baby, show me your fanny pack/I’ll show you my fanny”.[8]

Apple recorded a cover of “Sally’s Song” for the special edition release of the soundtrack, released in 2006, for the Tim Burton-produced film The Nightmare Before Christmas. In May 2006 Apple paid tribute to Elvis Costello on VH1’s concert series Decades Rock Live by performing Costello’s hit “I Want You”;[9] her version was subsequently released as a digital single.

Apple toured the East coast in Late August with Nickel Creek, after which she will begin studio work on her fourth studio album.[10]

Apple is also scheduled to appear at the First Annual GirlFrenzy Festival, which also features Sheryl Crow, Avril Lavigne and other prominent female artists.

San Diego Chargers Vs. Houston Texans Tickets in San Diego

By: Jamie    Category: Qualcomm Stadium Tickets, Sports

In October the Chargers will be host to the NFL expansion team, the Houston Texans at Qualcomm Stadium. Last year the Chargers had one of the best records in the NFL but pretty much threw it away in the post-season. Hopefully they can keep the same (or better record) and get it together in the post-season this time.
