If you want Jazz this summer, San Diego seems to be the place to be. Yet another Jazz musician is coming this summer. Dave Brubeck will be at Humphreys By The Bay concerts. Here is what Wikipedia has to say about him:
David Warren Brubeck (born December 6, 1920 in Concord, California[1]), better known as Dave Brubeck, is a U.S. jazz pianist. Often regarded as a genius in his field, he has written a number of jazz standards, including “In Your Own Sweet Way” and “The Duke”. Brubeck’s style ranges from refined to bombastic, reflecting his mother’s attempts at classical training and his improvisational skills. Much of his music employs unusual time signatures.
His long-time musical partner, alto saxophonist Paul Desmond, wrote the Dave Brubeck Quartet’s most famous piece, “Take Five”, which is in 5/4 time and has endured as a jazz classic. Brubeck experimented with time signatures through much of his career, recording “Pick Up Sticks” in 6/4, “Unsquare Dance” in 7/8, and “Blue Rondo à la Turk” in 9/8. He also provided music for TV animated miniseries “This Is America, Charlie Brown”.

A few years back my husband and I took a weekend trip to Hollywood. Right next to the hotel they were filming the Ryan Seacrest show and Hilary Duff was the musical guest. Burt Bacharach famed singer of my sister’s favorite song “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head” is coming to San Diego. He has many more songs, but this is the one I know him by. Rock The Bells, a group concert festival is making a stop in San Diego at Coors Ampitheater. The bands playing are Wu-Tang Clan, Cypress Hill, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch, Immortal Technique, David Banner and Jedi Mind Tricks. There’s also a specail independent hip hop stage that will show Felt, Living Legends, Brother Ali, Cage, Mr. Lif, Grouch & Eligh, Hangar 18, Blueprint and Lucky I am. I feel totally out of the loop because the only band that seems even remotely familiar is Cypress Hill and I know they’ve been around a while. The summer’s half way over and it’s time to start thinking about Football season again. If you looking for Chargers Preseason tickets this is the place to be.
